In March 2020, just a few weeks before the pandemic shut down, I ran the Los Angeles Marathon in support of Connecting to Cure Crohn's and Colitis, a nonprofit close to my heart. To raise funds, I partnered with a local wine bar, The Blending Lab, and hosted a lively bingo and wine night.
The partnership came together organically: I simply sat at the bar, ordered a glass of wine, and sparked up a conversation about how we could create an event that benefited us both. The owner was immediately on board, and the night turned into a huge success – I raised over 200% of my fundraising goal, and The Blending Lab had one of their best Wednesday sales nights.
It was a reminder that connection and community can make an incredible impact, even in uncertain times.
The Out of the Darkness Community and Overnight walks benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention by raising awareness on suicide and depression, raising money for research and education to prevent suicide from taking place, and providing assistance and a safe outlet for survivors of suicide. Since 2017, I have participated in community walks on behalf of Team Viktoria to help raise money and awareness for AFSP.
In 2017, after watching a documentary called A Plastic Ocean, I decided to become an active member of Surfrider Foundation. Surfrider Foundation is dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s oceans and beaches. I continuously volunteer at various beach clean-ups throughout the California coast.
